Dixon Baby Newsletter Vol. 10 (1/27/2004) No matter how dumb you get when you are pregnant, you can still learn! Joseph bought me a pair of maternity jeans with these really deep pockets on the front. I love them. But, one thing we couldn't figure out was why in addtion to the opening at the top of the pocket they also had a zipper across the length of the pocket mid way down. It LOOKS like it should be two pockets, but it is actually one. We couldn't figure out why that big pocket had two openings. Well, it is all clear now. When we were riding in the Jeep the other day, I was trying to get my hand in my pocket to get out my keys. Then, I realized..."Use the zipper!" I was able to get to the bottom of the pocket without having to take off my seat belt and lay down. :) Those zippers are so round pregnant women can still have access to the contents of their pockets without having to stand up or manuever. How nice! Thank you again, Joseph, for my coolio, big mamma pants. :) New clutsyness...Friday, I was thinking "cherry pie." I had developed a sweet tooth and a cherry pie seemed like the only answer. So, I lovingly heaped two cans of cherry pie filling into a pie crust and set it to baking in the oven. I also started to work on Joseph a chocolate dessert. Ding! The pie was ready. I reached in and started to take it out. I pulled it right out and over. Pie went all inside the oven and on the floor. I think I screamed. Joseph came running. He kindly cleaned it up while I chastised myself over and over for ruining a perfectly good pie. I couldn't make another because I had used both cans of my filling in that one. I wanted to cry. But, then I remembered I had several older apples that needed some purpose. So, Joseph helped me make an apple pie. This pie (along with the chocolate dessert I made for him) he put in and took out of the oven for me. :) That apple pie turned out good. And, although, I've had better, I haven't had much better. :) Earlier that day, I had made mac 'n' cheese and a "gourmet" cornbread. I asked Joseph if he could have been so quick to forgive me if I had dropped that homemade mac 'n' cheese that I had made earlier. He paused for a moment, and said, "I could have forgiven you...with time." :) By the way, the chickens thought dropping the pie was the best thing I've done in a long time. They ate pie for two days. I had a very discouraging maternity clothes shopping trip this weekend. I tried on pants and shirts...in probably a half dozen stores and didn't find the first "maternity" thing to buy. First let me say, there aren't alot of pretty maternity clothes...not in Hattiesburg, MS, anyway. But, I was just looking for a couple more pants so I don't have to keep switching between my one maternity pant and two sweat pants. :) Folks, I was trying on XL's in both tops and pants and they were all tight! Now, they say that you are supposed to wear the same size in maternity as you would normally wear. The maternity takes into account your extra girth. I sure couldn't prove that with the clothes I tried on this weekend. Even after moving up in size to XL, I had no better luck. This has been very disheartening because I'm not even maxed out in my shape yet. I think I am going straight to the mumu deparment. I want to be comfortable, and I cannot imagine that there are very many pregnant ladies out there who like to feel bound up. Reading back over this, it seems this is a very gloomy newsletter. :) By the way, pregnant women get whiney, too. ;) I must have passed my diabetes test because they didn't call me to take the longer test. The lab tech said they would call if the test I took showed a problem. We didn't get a call, so I am happy!!! I'll verify this with the doc on my next visit, though...just because pregnancy also makes you paranoid. :) Wee One has really been kicking alot. I think he/she must feel alot bigger to me than they actually are. Joseph says that after he/she arrives, that we will have to teach them that kicking folks isn't very polite. :) It's time to brag on Wee One. Wee One can hear very well now. They weigh just over a pound. They can swallow and are working on growing some good lungs for later use outside. Wee One got to go to their pre-first basketball game this weekend. Our team lost pretty badly, so Joseph said he was glad that Wee One couldn't see. :) I threw caution to the wind and ate some spicey nachos at the game..without reading a label. No telling what I sent down there to Wee One. But, we were hungry, and of the consession stand menu, nachos seemed like the least menancing choice. Afterall, I can at least pretend there was real cheese in that cheese sauce, right? :) Let me just share my current feelings as a pregnant woman. I feel that I can never have too much milk, orange juice, or water. I'm not sure when the last time I didn't feel thirsty was. Also, you CAN tell your husband too many things to do. :) There are only so many pictures he wants to hang or furniture he wants to move before he thinks that is enough and he's ready for a break. No amount of cornbread, chocolate fudge, or homemade pizza can change that. Hope everyone is doing well out there! We're all doing fine here, despite the antics of the clutsy, whiney one. ;) Kay
