Dixon Baby Newsletter Vol. 15 (4/9/2004) Baby name suggestions... From Marie: Kay Maria Joseph Conner From Amanda: Amanda We all went to Destin, FL this past weekend for the annual meeting of the company we work for. They always do a good job. But, I must say, I think it was a bit too much riding for me and baby. After traveling down on Thursday, Wee and I totally missed all the Friday activities (excepting breakfast) because we laid in bed all day. Saturday, was a pretty good day. I got to go to the meetings and Joseph and I had a little fun that afternoon. There was a little chill in the air and most folks on the beach were using their towels as blankets. :) When we got back on Sunday, poor Joseph was zonked, too. All of us had a good 12 hour nap. It was some of the best sleep we've had for a while. Problem is we seem not to be able to get enough of it! :) Sunday will be baby's pre-first Easter. The Easter Bunny got them these cool animal sound blocks. There is a picture of a different animal on each side. When you match the animals by putting the blocks together, they make the sound that animal makes. They are very cool. I Hope I don't use them up before baby can get ahold of them. We had a doctor's appointment on the 1st. We saw Dr. Drake. He was really funny. I didn't have a list of paranoid questions for him. I suppose that could have changed his demeanor. :) We did get his approval for the traveling, though. From here on out, we don't plan any long trips. It isn't recommended by the doctors, and I know now I just cannot do it. Does anyone know why riding in a car makes you tired? I've got spring fever. I see all this stuff greening up and blooming. Makes me want to plant stuff. Yesterday, while at Daddy's, I asked him where did he want me to put his tomato and pepper plants. He just laughed and said he couldn't bend over to take care of them. Then, he made some reference to the fact that *I* cannot bend over and take care of them, either. We'll that just hurt. ;) No, not really. I really cannot bend over. It is quite comical now. Rolling out of bed is quite an ordeal. But, I still want to plant something. So, now I am devising a way to do an elevated garden. Maybe a container on top of some cinder blocks. :) Daddy also suggested that if Joseph and I raise this baby quickly, that I could have him/her helping in the garden by fall. :) Here...I have to relate a friend of mine's story. She has a three year old and is currently expecting her next child. She too is in the bend over stage where you just have to decide if you are going to bend or breathe. Both cannot be done at the same time. To cure her spring fever, she decides to plant some bulbs in her flower bed. Her little one offers to help. After she plants each bulb, she turns around to gather stuff up. When she looks back at the flower bed, her son has carefully exhumed each and every bulb and has them rolled up in the front of his t-shirt. :) You know..I feel like such a whiney girl. Ladies in my grandparent's generation and before did LOTS of physical stuff throughout their pregnancy. Some even hid their pregnancy from the rest of the family. I think personally, my combination of being on the soft-side and having a good dose of paranoia thrown in, it keeps me from doing alot of stuff. I do just get tired quick, but you don't know how many times I've wanted to hop on the tractor or the lawn mower since the warm weather has hit. But, I haven't. I don't suspect that would be a good ride for baby. We've been fishing in the pond some. So far, Wee and I have only caught bream. Daddy and Daddy Joseph catch the bass. :) I tried to get Joseph to take me out in the boat so I could fish the corner where I just KNEW that big bass was lurking. He wouldn't do it. He said he didn't feel like fishing a pregnant woman out of the pond. :) Even after I promised to sit very still in the middle of the boat he wouldn't budge. I think he was just trying to improve his fishing score. From time to time, I go in the nursery to arrange stuff. I had my first dream about baby. I was changing the diaper, and I couldn't reach all my diaper changing stuff. Diaper changing time is less than 6 weeks away. So, I guess my subconscious is trying to get me motivated to get everything organized. We were asked the other day if I had started nesting yet. I think I did most of my nesting back in December. Since I am not a big house cleaning person, the only way to tell if I am nesting would be if I offered to do the dishes without prompting. :) Baby has learned a new trick. Wee knows how to squeeze my lungs. Wee will shift and my lungs feel like they are about the size of a sunglasses case. I've tried sleeping sitting up, but that doesn't work very well. I've also realized that eating food with a strong gastrointestinal resolve is best done at lunch and not after. I ate Mexican one night. I also didn't sleep that night. :) We've also taken to watching baby wiggle. They are big enough that we can see little parts pressed against the outside of my stomach when they move. We still aren't good at telling which parts they are, though. In case you don't know, I REALLY like scary movies. But, since the baby has been around, I don't watch alot of scary stuff...not that I ever do (I cover my eyes with my hands through most scary stuff)... to keep the "stress hormones" at a minimum. :) No use scaring baby before it is even born. But, last night, we decided to watch "Darkness Falls." We've seen it before. It is a pretty well done scary movie without alot of gore and extra unnecessary stuff. We were almost to the end of it when we started hearing a beeping. It was the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that we have the media room equipment on. We realized the power was off. Then the phone started ringing. It was Daddy. Someone had run off the road and hit the power pole in front of his house. Joseph took off to help but found the people had already been picked up. There wasn't any blood that he could see, so we guess they are okay...but very sore. The pole broke in half. Joseph stayed over at Daddy's in case the sheriff needed any info and to wait on the power line people. Meanwhile, I am back at home sitting in a dark house. I'm wearing Joseph's miner light on my head so I don't trip and fall. But, there is something you may not know. The premise of the movie that we were just watching is...this ghost witch lady gets you if you aren't in the light. When the lights go out, she parties in her own ghoulish way, which is usually most disappointing to those living folks around her. So, again...I'm sitting in the dark...thinking. :) After about 20 minutes, I figure baby is scared enough ;)...so, we hop in the Jeep and head to Daddy's. When I got out of the Jeep, Daddy and Joseph were sitting on Daddy's front porch. I said to Joseph, "I have just one thing to say to you. When you are watching a scary movie about staying out of the dark and the lights go out for real, don't leave your pregnant wife at home, alone, in the dark." Joseph got really tickled. :) So, now you know a bit of our goings on. Hope everyone is doing well out there! Kay
