Emma Jewel Newsletter Vol. 24 (11/6/2004) >>>September 2004:<<< Miss Emma has been up to lots of new stuff. She's taking water out of her sippy cup. She has also tasted her toes. When we go for walks now, she wants me to stop and let her touch stuff. She's really good at stripping leaves off the trees. Her next personal goal is to grab Hero's (the cat) tail. When we sit outside, he comes and rubs on my legs. When Emma is sitting on my lap, the tip of Hero's tail is just high enough to waft in front of her face. She follows it intently. She's made several grabs for it, but it is quite elusive. She makes a point of trying for it at every opportunity. :) The other day, she was playing with her burp cloth, and I said, "Hey, Sweetie!" Her head whipped around to look at me. I told Joseph, "I think she thinks her name is 'Sweetie.'" So, I then said, "Hey, Emma." Again, she whipped her head around to look at me. "Joseph, she answers to 'Sweetie' AND 'Emma'" Joseph pauses a minute and then says, "Hey, Curtain Rod." Emma whips her head around again. Joseph and I laughed. She doesn't care what you call her as long as you call her. The ladies at Office Depot now know Emma by name. The other day, we stopped in. It was raining, so Joseph dropped Emma and me off while he parked the car. When I walked in, one of the girls said, "Hey, it's Emma!" She said she had seen Emma in with her Daddy and in with me, but hadn't ever put us together. I told her that Emma thought this was our second home. Emma did alot of smiling and cooing for the Office Depot ladies and got several good foot squeezes for her efforts. >>>November 3, 2004:<<< Wow! Has it really been THAT long since I have written a newsletter??? Shame on me! Lately, I seem to be behind on alot of stuff. :) Although, Emma assures me that I am right on schedule as long as I keep her entertained and out of trouble! Oh...she does so much now! She isn't crawling yet, but that doesn't keep her from getting around. It started with her spinning on her belly button. Then her circle started getting wider and wider. Now that she can roll over both ways, she's incorporated that with her spinning to get pretty much wherever she wants to go...and fast! I'll set her on the floor to play with a toy then look down and she is gnawing on my chair leg. "How'd you get over here!?" I ask. She just smiles. Tomorrow we have another doctor's appointment and shots. I dread the shots. They make her so sick. She has gotten Hero's tail now. Hero, who would have been more appropriately named "Spaz," just wanted away. :) He actually likes Emma very much now. He is always coming up to her, but he hasn't gone stupid. He stays just out of her grip. Although, he does let her pet him when we are holding her. I guess he expects us to save him. The other day, she was laying on the floor and held her hands out for Hero. He approached and almost had his head in her hands when she went "Ahhhhkt!" "Ahhhkt" is her word for "Hi, I'm happy to see you." It sounded like "Scat!" to Hero. :) Guess who has teeth now. That is right...TEETH...not a tooth. We got three teeth in one week. The first one showed up around Tuesday of last week. Monday of this week, we had our third one. Two bottom ones and a top one all together. She's combining all sorts of sounds now. Some sound like words. I think her first words are going to be "Whooo Yeah." It is one of those all occasion sayings we use. Although, I am trying to teach her to say, "Don't go, Daddy." We always have a much more fun day when daddy is home. :) She recognizes her daddy's voice on the phone. They talk during the day. I also send him pictures of Her Cuteness through out the day. She often poses for the camera. She has had so many pictures taken, she knows what to do. >>>November 6, 2004:<<< Well, we survived the shots. She didn't get the HepB vaccine this time, and she has been doing much better. Yesterday, she still felt pretty bad, but nothing like before. She is going pretty much anywhere she wants to go. Over at Grandpa Ray's she scoots and rolls all over the place. Last night, we had our first accident. She rolled over on a set of baby keys and bumped her lip. She recovered quick. We were very proud. :) You can also see her when she is listening and learning. That is so cool. When you show her how something works and tell her about it, she studies it intently. They say children know the meaning of words before they can say them. I wonder what all she can understand of what we say. Her favorite TV show is "The Porter Wagoner Show." She saw it for the first time last night and was captivated by Dolly Parton singing about her Blue Ridge Boy. Oh...one other thing. We were all a family of pirates for Halloween. Of course, Emma was the cutest pirate. It took her a little bit to get used to her daddy wearing an eye patch. She doesn't like eye patches or glasses. Lots more has happened, but that is all that comes to mind now. I'm going to get this off while Emma and her Daddy have a nap. They've both had a busy week. Momma Kay
